Tony Guerrero’s career can be read as a long list of credits: solo records, chart placements, film and television, production work, sessions and collaborations with artists whose names cross genres and generations. But the more interesting story moves in the opposite direction. The longer the résumé gets, the more revealing the small settings become. Duo Tones stripped the conversation down to Tony and Jeremy Siskind — horn and piano, with nowhere for either musician to hide. Abrazo opened the palette with cello, guitar and Latin and Brazilian color. Tony Guerrero & Strings takes another step: not bigger for the sake of scale, but richer in texture. The string quartet does not have to turn jazz into “classical music.” It can simply change the air around the horn — lengthening a note, deepening a silence, making a familiar phrase land differently. That is the thread worth following. Tony has worked at almost every scale available to a musician. The moments that stay with you are often the ones where he makes the room feel smaller.
