MEET THE ARTIST

Ron King

Los Angeles-based trumpeter Ron King moves across studio, lead and jazz work while also writing and arranging music of his own.

King’s range is the point: the same trumpet voice can live inside a Neil Young orchestral record, a straight-ahead jazz album, a Paul Brown-produced smooth-jazz project or a dedicated trumpet ensemble.

THE STORY

The story

Ron King’s career is built around range. A Los Angeles studio, lead and jazz trumpeter as well as a composer and arranger, he has developed his own catalog while remaining an adaptable ensemble player. His credits include trumpet on Neil Young’s 2014 Storytone, the 2016 jazz album Triumph and the 2020 smooth-jazz release Downtown Mama, produced by and featuring Paul Brown. King is also a current member of Mike Vax & TRPTS. On August 27, 2026, he brought that breadth to Campus JAX with Joey Sellers’ Jazz Aggregation.

RECORDINGS & MEDIA

Across the records

King’s recorded work shows unusual stylistic reach: trumpet on Neil Young’s Storytone, his own eight-track jazz album Triumph, and the smooth-jazz project Downtown Mama, produced by and featuring guitarist Paul Brown.
