MEET THE ARTIST

Karl Sanger

Saxophonist, vocalist, teacher and talent professional whose arrival for Turn The Page filled a structural need in the Bob Seger arrangements and ultimately expanded the sound of the Sam Morrison Band itself.

Karl entered because the Seger show needed the instrument to be believable. The useful surprise is what happened next: once the sound was there, the original band wanted it too.

WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW THEM

The horn changes the shape of the band.

01

THE SIGNATURE

Some songs are identified by the first breath of the saxophone.

In Turn The Page, Karl carries parts that are not optional nostalgia; they are structural hooks in the catalog.

02

THE EXPANSION

He stayed after the problem was solved.

Sam Morrison says Karl joined for the Bob Seger project and then became part of the original Sam Morrison Band project as well.

03

THE MUSICIAN

The instrument list is wider than the role suggests.

Karl’s teaching practice spans the saxophone family, flute, piano, voice, clarinet and brass, reflecting a broad working knowledge of arrangement and sound.

THE STORY

The missing voice that became part of the language.

Karl’s place in the band has a clean origin story. Turn The Page needed a saxophonist because Bob Seger’s live vocabulary demanded one. Karl was the answer. But the more interesting part is that the relationship did not stay confined to the tribute production. He moved into the Sam Morrison Band as well, giving the original project another color and another vocal voice. What began as accuracy became identity.

EDUCATION & TEACHING

A multi-instrument musician with an organizer’s mind.

Karl’s professional life includes teaching, a college music background and decades working as a Southern California talent agent. That mix makes sense onstage: he is a musician used to thinking not only about his own part, but about how parts, people and performances fit together.
