Santa Maria was born in Austin, Texas, and is now active in Los Angeles as a saxophonist, multi-woodwind player and composer.

The palette is unusually wide.

On Echo Deep, Santa Maria performs four saxophones plus piccolo, flute, clarinet and keyboards, while also contributing the compositions.

Collaboration as authorship.

He co-led the 2025 Orenda Records album Oblique Rhyme with bassist David Tranchina.

From Introspection in 2014 through Echo Deep in 2023 and the co-led Oblique Rhyme in 2025, Santa Maria’s recorded work traces an expanding language built around saxophone, multiple woodwinds and composition.

Introspection established Santa Maria as a recording leader in 2014. Echo Deep followed in 2023 with an unusually broad multi-woodwind palette, and Oblique Rhyme arrived in 2025 as a co-led project with bassist David Tranchina.
