Bart Robley

Drummer and educator whose combination of power, study and teaching gives the Sam Morrison Band and Turn The Page a rhythm section that can hit hard without losing shape.

Bart plays music that rewards force, but his background as a student and teacher means the force is organized. The drums do not simply make the band louder. They tell the rest of the band where the song is going.

Sam Morrison was already describing Bart as a drum teacher and Hal Leonard instructional author in 2011; Gretsch added him to its artist roster in 2024.

THE STORY

The drummer who knows why it works.

Bart’s story is not “rock drummer who also teaches.” The two sides reinforce each other. Teaching forces a musician to identify what makes time feel good, why a fill lands, and how sound changes the emotional weight of a groove. Performing tests those ideas in real time. In the Sam Morrison Band, that knowledge has to become sweat and momentum. In Turn The Page, it also has to become discipline. That combination is why the band can sound large without sounding loose.

Bart moved to Southern California in 1989, studied at Fullerton College and built a professional life that includes performing, teaching and instructional work. His Gretsch artist profile also emphasizes tone — a useful obsession for a drummer whose sound has to translate from clubs to touring stages.
