MEET THE ARTIST

Tom Luer

Saxophonist whose Campus JAX history spans Latin jazz, a vocal-centered tribute and contemporary big-band performance.

Luer's connected broadcasts move through three musical languages. Each asks for a different relationship to rhythm, melody and space, making versatility the story the archive itself tells.

WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW THEM

Five broadcasts, three musical worlds.

01

LATIN JAZZ

Inside layered rhythm.

Francisco Torres broadcasts from 2020 and 2021 place the saxophone in a percussion-rich conversation.

02

MY BUDDY

Frame a story and a voice.

The 2025 Kiki Ebsen performance asks for restraint, color and support.

03

THE BBB

Project through the orchestra.

The 2025 and 2026 BBB appearances add blend, precision and big-band force.

THE STORY

The tenor saxophone changes rooms.

Tom Luer's JAX history is a lesson in range. He appears in Latin jazz settings with Francisco Torres, supports Kiki Ebsen's story-centered “My Buddy” performance, and takes the tenor chair inside The BBB's contemporary orchestral sound. Those contexts ask for different kinds of attention. Latin jazz places phrasing inside a layered rhythmic conversation. A vocal program asks the horn to frame a lyric and leave space. A big band requires blend, projection and exact ensemble time. Luer's presence across all three makes versatility concrete rather than promotional. The connected broadcasts run from the Francisco Torres Latin Band in 2020 and Latin Jazz Sextet in 2021 through The BBB in 2025, Kiki Ebsen in 2025 and tonight's return. Few single JAX histories show as many sides of the tenor saxophone.
