MEET THE ARTIST

The BBB Featuring Bernie Dresel

A 16-piece Los Angeles jazz orchestra led by Bernie Dresel, pairing brass and reeds with electric guitar, upright bass and drums.

Hear the size of an orchestra and the immediacy of a rhythm section. The BBB's appeal lives in that exchange: intricate writing, a soloist's personality and the collective force of sixteen musicians moving together.

WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW THEM

Listen past the first brass hit.

01

THE INSTRUMENTATION

The guitar changes the color.

Electric guitar occupies the traditional piano chair. Listen for its texture between the horn passages and its conversation with bass and drums.

02

NUMBER ONE SON

The band has a recording story.

An all-analog recording captures this orchestra at EastWest Studios, with mixing at The Village and vinyl mastering from tape.

03

RETURN TO THE ROOM

There is already a JAX history.

Two earlier Campus JAX broadcasts are connected below. Each preserves its own performance and lineup, giving tonight's visit a place in an ongoing story.

THE STORY

Sixteen voices. A shared charge.

The BBB Featuring Bernie Dresel is a 16-piece Los Angeles jazz orchestra led by its drummer. Four trumpets, four trombones and five saxophones meet a rhythm section of electric guitar, upright bass and drums. That guitar chair gives the ensemble a distinctive color, joining big-band swing with jazz and rockabilly energy. Formed in 2014, the band makes room for intricate writing, ensemble precision and individual voices. The best doorway is the sound itself: an arrangement gathers momentum, a solo opens the space, and the whole orchestra returns with a fresh charge. The recording catalog spans Live N' Bernin', BERN BERN BERN, The Pugilist and Number One Son. The latest chapter takes the band into an all-analog production at EastWest Studios, preserving an ensemble performance through tape. Campus JAX broadcasts offer a different kind of document: the exchange between that orchestra and a room of listeners. Explore the October 23, 2025 and January 11, 2026 performances, then follow the October 4 broadcast. Personnel belongs to each specific performance; the band page connects the enduring identity across those visits.
