MEET THE ARTIST

Rob Lockart

Tenor saxophonist whose Campus JAX appearances connect the Dave Slonaker Big Band and The BBB Featuring Bernie Dresel.

Lockart's two JAX performances show how the same instrumental role answers two different composer-led environments: one shaped by Slonaker, one driven from Dresel's drum chair.

WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW THEM

Use the archive as the biography.

01

2022

The Slonaker frame.

The December 2022 broadcast places Lockart in the Dave Slonaker Big Band saxophone section.

02

2026

The BBB frame.

The October 2026 performance brings him into a more rhythm-forward orchestral design.

03

THE TENOR

Blend, motion, emergence.

Across both settings, the chair must connect the section and be ready to step into open space.

THE STORY

One chair, two bodies of writing.

Rob Lockart's two confirmed JAX appearances place the tenor saxophone inside two distinct composer-led big bands. The Dave Slonaker ensemble emphasizes the architecture of the writer's orchestra; The BBB adds a drummer-led rhythmic engine and a different kind of attack. For a listener, that comparison is more valuable than a generic list of credits. The tenor chair has to blend, carry inner motion and step forward when the arrangement opens. Lockart's archive appearances show the same instrumental role responding to two separate bodies of writing. Begin with the December 2022 Dave Slonaker Big Band broadcast, then move to The BBB on October 4, 2026. The later appearance changes the first from an isolated credit into a recurring JAX relationship.
