MEET THE ARTIST

Michael Teague

Singer-songwriter Michael Teague has been writing since age 18, shaped by James Taylor and the singer-songwriter generation that surrounded him. His musical roots reach further back — to childhood, watching his father play for The New Christy Minstrels in the mid-1960s — and his story now carries forward through JAX SongStage.

For Teague, songwriting is less about making a statement than making a connection. The influence of James Taylor and that era of singer-songwriters gave him an early language for doing it: a voice, a song and enough honesty to reach another person. Decades later, that same idea still matters — and now he hopes to pass the joy of creating music on to his grandchildren.

WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW THEM

Three threads in the story.

01

THE ROOTS

The music started at home.

As a kid, Teague watched his father play for The New Christy Minstrels in the mid-1960s. Music was not an abstraction; it was already part of family life.

02

THE SONGWRITER

He started writing at 18.

James Taylor and the singer-songwriter generation of that era became important influences as Teague began finding his own voice.

03

THE LEGACY

The song keeps moving forward.

Teague sees music as a way to connect people. He hopes to pass that creative impulse to his grandchildren and credits his wife for supporting the journey over many years.

THE STORY

What gets passed down.

Music came early for Michael Teague. As a child, he watched his father play for The New Christy Minstrels in the mid-1960s. That made music something immediate — not an industry or an abstraction, but something people he loved could make in a room. At 18, Teague began writing songs of his own. James Taylor and other artists of that singer-songwriter era became important influences, but the deeper lesson was about connection: how a song, honestly delivered, can find another person and become part of that person's life. That idea still sits at the center of his music. Teague hopes to pass what he has learned — and the pleasure of creating — to his grandchildren. He also makes a point of crediting his wife for supporting him across the years. At JAX SongStage, those threads come together naturally: family, influence, craft and the simple belief that a song matters most when it reaches somebody.
