MEET THE ARTIST

Majo Insuasti

Majo Insuasti is Maria Jose “Majo” Insuasti, a Colombian singer-songwriter whose story begins with original music. She studied Commercial Music with an emphasis in songwriting at Concordia University Irvine, released the nine-song album Origen in 2022, and earned Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation scholarships in 2023 and 2024. The résumé is impressive. The more important point is what it reveals: Majo has been building as a songwriter all along.

Scholarships, television and institutional recognition can make a young artist look finished before the work has had time to breathe. Majo’s story reads differently. The milestones keep pointing back to the same center — original songs, formal study in songwriting and a catalog she is building in her own name.

WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW THEM

Three reasons to listen past the voice.

01

THE SONGWRITER

The voice is only part of the story.

Majo studied Commercial Music with an emphasis in songwriting at Concordia University Irvine. That frames the rest of the profile correctly: the performance serves the writing.

02

THE RECOGNITION

Two years. Two Latin GRAMMY Foundation scholarships.

She received Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation scholarship recognition in 2023 and again in 2024 — independent institutional validation of an artist still building her body of work.

03

THE ORIGINAL

PBS put one of her own songs on the screen.

In 2023 PBS SoCal featured Majo performing “Little Boy of Bethlehem,” an original song, in Navidad! A Concordia Christmas. The distinction matters: the exposure came attached to her own writing.

THE STORY

A songwriter building in public.

Majo’s development has happened where people can see it: in songs, classrooms, recordings and performances. Origen arrived in 2022 as a nine-song album under her own name. At Concordia University Irvine, she studied Commercial Music with an emphasis in songwriting — formal training pointed directly at the craft already visible in the catalog. Recognition followed. The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation supported her with scholarships in 2023 and 2024. PBS SoCal then featured her in Navidad! A Concordia Christmas performing her original “Little Boy of Bethlehem.” The interesting part is not any single credential. It is the consistency between them. Album, education, scholarship and television all keep returning to the same idea: Majo is developing a voice by developing the songs behind it.

AWARDS & RECOGNITION

Recognition arrived early. The work had already started.

By the time the institutional recognition began to stack up, Majo had already put a nine-song album into the world. That sequence matters. The scholarships and PBS feature do not substitute for the work; they point back to it.

2022
